Overnight College Visits

Overnight College Visits

Overnight college visits are an essential part of the student visions academic experience. They provide the student with the opportunity to see first hand the atmosphere of the campus and the experience of being a student at that college or university for the day.

The student visions counselor pairs our students with a mentor, when available, who is enrolled at that college or university and who is majoring in the younger students’ area of interest. The counselor then arranges an overnight visit. Visits to colleges and universities, especially in the Oregon-Washington region, may be scheduled throughout the year. Visits to colleges in other states are often arranged during a spring break or during the summer when more travel time is available to the student. Travel expenses to and from the college visits and meals are the responsability of the parents or students.

The mentor will meet the student when he/she arrives on campus. During the visit, the student will see campus life through the eyes of a fellow student. Often included in the visit is a brief tour of the campus and the opportunity to enjoy some of the evening activities at the college. One of the highlights of the visit will be the opportunity to sit with the mentor in the actual classes in which the mentor is enrolled. Opportunities will be available for the student to ask questions about the campus and campus life, meet other college students who attend that university, and even meet some of the professors who teach the classes.
