Ralph was born in Burlington, Washington on May 26, 1930. He attended the public schools in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1948 and from Grays Harbor College in 1950.
Ralph graduated from the University of Oregon in 1953 and from its School of Law in 1955, from which he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. Ralph was a trial attorney in Eugene for eleven years.
Ralph's family moved to the Portland area in 1967 when he was named the manager of the Portland office of Transamerica Title Insurance Company. He was active in Oregon legislative matters, having drafted four bills passed in the 1977 legislature concerning real estate licensing, escrow regulation, subdivision and condominium creation and sales control.
He is well known as an instructor and speaker on commercial and real estate law, having taught at the University of Oregon School of Law, Portland State University's Division of Continuing Education, Mt. Hood Community College, the Oregon Realtor Institute, the Washington Realtors Institute, as well as conducting many seminars on real estate subjects throughout the state on behalf of Professional Careers, Inc., Executive Seminars, Inc., and the Oregon Association of Realtors.
