I attended Brigham Young University where I earned a BS in Clothing and Textiles with a minor in Child Development.

After a couple years in retailing, I went to Italy for 15 months as a missionary. I returned to retailing for a few more years during which time I decided that I wanted to teach at the college level, so I returned to school. I earned a MS in Textiles and Clothing from Colorado State University . While I was at Colorado State , working as a graduate teaching assistant, I took advantage of seminars on teaching. After graduation I taught at New York State University College at Oneonta.

During the last decade or two I began to worry about the people who don't get a good education. It seems more and more that those without a post-secondary education cannot compete in the job market. I want to help people get the education they need to become employed in a field they enjoy and be able to adequately support themselves.

As a volunteer, I have taught classes on crafts, religion, and emergency preparedness for both children and adults for several years at my church. Currently I am a Cub Scout leader.
